Suspects Steals Vehicle While Victim Searches For Missing Dog

One man is behind bars after stealing a vehicle from a man who was trying to find his lost dog.

Authorities say around 8:00 Saturday night, the victim was looking for his missing dog in the area of 42nd and Huntington and when he got out of his vehicle to look for the dog, he left his vehicle running.

When he returned the vehicle was gone. The victim had left his cell phone in the car and was able to use his girlfriend's phone to track where his cell phone and car were going. The vehicle was tracked initially to the 8200 block of West O Street. Prior to Lancaster County Sheriff's Deputies arrival, the vehicle was then tracked travelling to I-80 headed east.

Ultimately deputies caught up to the car but the driver refused to stop. The Nebraska State Patrol assisted and with the use of stop sticks the vehicle was disabled near Gretna.

The suspect, 25 year old Rakar Omer, was taken into custody and charged with Felony Theft by Receiving Stolen Property.
