Six People Rescued From Burning Duplex

Omaha firefighters rescued six people from burning duplex early Saturday morning near 30th and Jackson.

Fire crews arrived at the scene just after 5:00 a.m.to and found two people trapped in the first floor apartment and four trapped in the second floor apartment.  Firefighters were able to get everyone out and put out the fire in less than ten minutes.

All of the residents were taken to the hospital for evaluation, but there were no serious injuries.  Firefighters found a dog and a cat dead in the first floor apartment.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be candles that were left burning unattended.
