An Elkhorn principal who came under fire this week for not allowing Christmas decorations in her school, has been placed on administrative leave.
The controversy at Manchester Elementary led to an apology from the principal, Jennifer Sinclair. In a memo to parents, she stated that she came from a place where Christmas was not allowed in schools, which is why she laid out what could and could not be allowed in classrooms. She stated she wanted to be inclusive and culturally sensitive to all students.
The list stated items like Santa or Christmas items, Christmas trees, playing Christmas music and Elf on the Shelf were not allowed. Candy canes weren’t allowed either because they historically represent Christ.
Now, Sinclair has been placed on administrative leave and the Elkhorn School District sent this email to parents Thursday morning:
Good morning Manchester families,
I am reaching out with an update regarding Principal Sinclair. As of Thursday, December 6, 2018, Principal Sinclair has been placed on administrative leave. District administrators will be on site throughout her absence to ensure the school environment is not disrupted and the daily routines of students are not affected.
Also, as an added safety measure and in an act of extreme precaution, Officer Miller will be present at the school throughout the coming days.
