Millard South Student Remembered As 'Smart, Funny'

Shock and sadness filled the hallways of Millard South High School on Monday as students and staff tried to deal with the sudden death of 9th grader Trevor Canaday.

The 14 year old was killed Saturday evening in a two vehicle hit-and-run crash at 144th and Harrison.  His father suffered facial injuries and is recovering.

"Trevor was smart and funny, a good student with a great sense of humor," according to a statement from the school district.  "He was on the Millard South freshman football team and always gave a thousand percent at practice. He was also a valued member of the varsity show choir."

Trevor also attended Neihardt Elementary School and Andersen Middle School. "His friends and teachers throughout our Millard community are heartbroken. Our thoughts are with his parents and sisters."

The man accused of causing the crash was arrested after running from the crash scene.  36 year old Jeffrey Eggeling of Bennington was booked on two counts of DUI Causing Serious Bodily Injury and for Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash.
