Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush salutes outside the U.S. Capitol

Congressional leaders announced that former president George H.W. Bush will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol starting on Monday night (December 3). Bush, who was the 41st president, passed away shortly after 10 p.m. on Friday at the age of 94

There will be an arrival ceremony at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda on Monday at 5 p.m. ET. The public will be allowed to pay their respects between 7:30 p.m. and 7 a.m. Wednesday morning. 

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will both attend the funeral at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. President Trump also declared that December 5th will be a National Day of Mourning and that all flags will be flown at half-staff for the next 30 days

A spokesman for the Bush family said that details about his funeral will be posted on www.georgehwbush.com when they have been finalized. 

The last president to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol was President Gerald Ford, while Senator John McCain was the most recent person to be bestowed with the honor.
