The Omaha Police department on Thursday welcomed a new horse to their mounted patrol. The nine year old Horse is named "Orozco," in honor of Kerrie Orozco, who was killed three years ago in the line of duty.
Orozco, who was previously named Red, was donated by Hector Orozco, Kerrie's husband. When work and family required more time than he could spend riding and caring for Red, Hector decided to donate him to the Omaha Police Mounted Patrol Unit.
He said the idea to donate Red to the department came to him when he saw Omaha Police Mounted Patrol officers patrolling on their horses in the downtown area.
"Officer Orozco's legacy will always remain strong in our community. He says Orozco the horse is a great reminder of that legacy.
