Firefighter Injured In Apartment Complex Fire

A firefighter and resident were both hospitalized after a Wednesday night apartment complex fire. 

Omaha fire crews were called out to the Benson Gardens Apartments near 80th and Blondo around 7:45. Crews reported smoke and flames from an exterior 3rd floor balcony on approach. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within minutes.

One resident  was taken to the hospital by ambulance for observation. One firefighter was also transported to the hospital by ambulance for an injury received on scene. The extent of either person's injuries has not been disclosed. 

Several animals were rescued and the Red Cross was on scene to assist with residents displaced by the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
