Veterans Day Program Moved Due To Cold Weather

There has been a change of venue for Sunday's Veterans Day program at Memorial Park.   Omaha American Legion Post 1 Organizer Fred Tisdale says, "It is going to be way too cold for anybody to sit out there for an hour.  So we decided to have it at Post 1."

That is located at 78th and Davenport Street.

Guest speakers will be Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert, Governor Pete Ricketts, Congressman Don Bacon and a representative from Senator Deb Fischer's Office.  Evonne Williams with Patriotic Productions will also speak on the All Women’s Honor Flight to Washington D.C. last September.  A Nebraska WWII Marine who was at Iwo Jima in 1945 will also attend.

Tisdale says this is a special Veterans Day as it falls on the 100th anniversary of the signing of the armistice ending WWI.  Around the world, bells will ring 21 times at 11 a.m. in honor of the day.  Tisdale says they too will start the program with the ringing of the bells.

The program will start at 11 a.m.  The public is invited to attend.
