LaVista Police say the shooting deaths of a man and his wife late Tuesday night was an apparent murder-suicide. Police Chief Bob Lausten says around 11:15 p.m. 911 received a call from the Alpine Village Apartments near 84th and Harrison from a man who said he shot his wife.
While on the phone with the man, the 911 operator heard what sounded like a gunshot on the open line. When officers arrived they found 72 year old Herman Weaver suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. His wife, 73 year old Charlotte Weaver, was found dead inside the apartment.
Herman Weaver was transported to Bergan Mercy Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Lausten says investigators are trying to determine what led to the gunfire. Autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday.
