Man Behind Bars After Hitting Parked Cars; Taking Out Mailboxes

A 21 year old man is behind bars for allegedly drunkenly driving into parked cars and fleeing from police.

Lincoln Police say shortly before 1:30 Thursday morning, officers responded to the 300 block of Carolyn Court for reports of a disturbance. Witnesses reported that Hayden Lorenze was sitting in a vehicle, playing loud music and yelling profanities at a passerby.

Officers contacted Lorenze, but he was uncooperative and fled from the officer. The officer then attempted to follow Lorenze as he took off, traveling between 50-60 mph and swerving from curb to curb. As Lorenze drove eastbound on Carolyn Ct. he hit two parked cars, two mailboxes and a street sign.

He continued westbound and hit another vehicle near 56th and L St. with his vehicle finally coming to a rest when he wrecked near 44th and D St. The vehicle caught fire and as smoke filled Lorenze's vehicle, officers broke the windows to extricate the occupants but they discovered Lorenze had fled on foot after the crash.

Officers set up a perimeter while fire and rescue crews worked to extinguish the fire. Lorenze was taken into custody a short time later and he showed signs of alcohol impairment. He was arrested for DUI, Disturbing the Peace, Reckless Driving and Leaving the Scene of Multiple Accidents.
