There is good news for frequent eastbound I-80 travelers.
Iowa DOT District 4 Engineer Scott Schram says, "Drivers will notice there will be more lanes opened up on the Missouri River Bridge heading eastbound. Those are in anticipation of completion of additional paving done on the Iowa wide."
There will be five lanes heading eastbound. Schram says they will not carry all five lanes through the corridor. Some will split off to I-29 northbound and the 24th Street exit in Council Bluffs. The other lanes will continue on to I-80 that will eventually become the I-29 Local lanes and also lanes for the I-80 East Express.
Schram says, "Just like anything, it will be new the first time. Once you traverse through the corridor it will be pretty self-explanatory."
Construction work isn't done quite yet. Schram says by April 1st, 2019, the westbound duel-divided roadway will open from the Madison Avenue exit to the Missouri River.
