Frost Says Huskers Keep Improving Ahead Of Northwestern Game

Husker Head Coach Scott Frost says his team will be taking continued improvements with them as they head into a weekend match up with Northwestern. "I think we had our best week of practice ever - again."

After Thursday's practice, Frost said depth is a continuing problem for his squad. "So we can't just run these guys into the ground." He said there has been enough improvement that, "we can let the guys recover a little bit."

The coach repeated his take on the Purdue game being a turning point in getting the culture on track. "Everybody seems happy, seems to be fighting together, seems to get what it takes to do little things the right way and give yourselves a chance."

One of the things Frost wants to overcome is playing out of deep holes on the field. He said, "You know, we're last in the country right now in starting field position on offense. We're close to the bottom in starting position on defense. Some of that is needing to get three-and-outs on defense, needing to get turnovers, needing to create short fields for the offense."

While the Huskers are generating offense, Frost says they've had a lot of ground to cover. "It's hard to have 500 yards of offense and lose. We've done it three times and a lot of that's because when you have to go 85, 90 yards with the ball every time you're going to get yards but it's hard to score."

Saturday's contest with the Wildcats will be the Huskers' third road game in four weeks. An energized Northwestern brings the momentum of a 29-19 win over Michigan State last weekend as they used a high-powered passing attack to get the victory, throwing for 373 yards.

On the season, Northwestern ranks third in the Big Ten in passing, averaging 293.8 yards a game.

Kickoff in Evanston is 11:00 AM. That game will be carried on ABC.
