Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine says the 16-year-old boy accused of stabbing a 15-year-old girl at Burke High School on Tuesday could face charges as an adult.
After the attack, which left both in serious condition, Kleine told 6 News he's taking the case seriously. "This is serious what happened here, and what the intent was or appears to have been from the person doing this," Kleine said.
Officials said that Lacey Paige was stabbed multiple times by the boy. Kleine said that's enough intent to charge him as an adult.
"We'll assess that as things go along. I haven't seen any evidence yet, just very preliminary briefing, but from what I've heard so far it seems this case will be found in adult court," Kleine told 6 News.
One of the rumors making the rounds about the stabbing was that the fire alarm was pulled as a diversion. Kleine says that's not the case.
