Omaha Police Identify Burke Student Stabbed At School

Omaha Police say the Burke High Student who was stabbed and critically injured Tuesday afternoon is 15 year old Lacey Paige.

Investigators say a 16-year-old male student stabbed her and then cut himself, sending both students to Bergan Mercy Hospital.  Staff members and a school resource officer responded to the scene.

The incident happened in the basement of the school around 2:30 and forced the school into lockdown. Senior Chris Hines tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB he's concerned that many of the students didn't take the lockdown siutation seriously.

"You know we do practice drills and we don't take it that serious.  But it was actually happening so I was kind of scared."

Police say Paige and the unidentified 16 year old were taken to the hospital in critical condition.  They both underwent surgery and are now in stable condition.

The knife used in the incident was located.  A motive for the attack has not been released.  Police say they will have extra officers at the school on Wednesday.
