A man is in custody after exchanging gunfire with LaVista Police during a foot pursuit Thursday morning. Police Chief Bob Lausten says were called to investigate a physical disturbance between a man and two women at a home near 69th and Emiline around 8:00.
Lausten says when officers showed up the women were in the front yard and the man pulled a gun. Officers ordered him to drop it and he took off on foot.
Lausten says officers chased the man and he tried to break into a nearby home. "Officers exchanged gunfire with him." The man then broke into a house at Emiline and LaVista Drive, just south of Harrison.
The homeowner detained the man and police were able to arrest him. He was taken to Midlands Hospital as a precautionary measure. Despite the fact that the shots were fired in a neighborhood near G. Stanley Hall Elementary School no officers or citizens were injured.
