Lincoln State Senator Kate Bolz plans to introduce legislation next session that would establish the Sexual Assault Survivors Bill of Rights.
Senator Bolz says survivors of assault brought this issue to her attention. These individuals did not have the best experience after their assault and were not given the information regarding their rights. This proposal is similar to national legislation that was passed at the federal level.
Under the proposed legislation, victims of sexual assault will be informed of their existing rights when they contact law enforcement or from medical professionals when they seek treatment. Those rights include the ability to participate in the criminal justice process and to be treated with respect.
