Two People Killed In North Omaha Crash

Two people were killed and a third injured after a car went off the road and slammed into a tree early Sunday morning.

It happened on John J. Pershing Drive,  just south Oakridge Road around 1:30 a.m. Investigators say a Mitsubishi Galant was headed north on John J Pershing Dr. when the driver, 21 year old Elijah Griffin, left the roadway, spun down an embankment and hit a tree.

Griffin died from his injuries at the hospital.  The backseat passenger, 22 year old Rylee Thornton died at the scene.  The front seat passenger, 21 year old Deyonna Griffin, was taken the hospital to be treated for a head injury that is considered serious but not life-threatening.

Police believe speed and alcohol as possible contributing factors for the crash, which remains under investigation.
