Two Waste Management Employees Killed In Crash

Two Waste Management employees were killed around 1:00 Friday afternoon after a crash near 204th and Fort in Elkhorn.

Waste Management officials confirmed that both people killed were employees of the company. "Today is a day of profound sadness for the Waste Management family. This is a heartbreaking incident and our deepest sympathies go out to their families and friends," the company said in a statement.

The Nebraska State Patrol says that the garbage truck was driving northbound on 204th St.  It drove into the southbound lane to pass a pickup and trailer that were turning right onto Fort St.

While the attempt to pass happened, a dump truck was turning left from Fort St. onto southbound 204th St. The garbage truck attempted to get back into its own lane and lost control, rolling onto its side, when the driver over corrected. That's when it ran into the dump truck.

The men who died in the crash were identified as 26 year old Pierre Neal and 55 year old Rogelio Sanchez Marin.  Neal was driving the garbage truck.

The driver of the dump truck has been identified as 55 year old Darold Ashcraft of Omaha. He suffered only minor injuries.

Mayor Jean Stothert also released a statement Friday evening.  "Waste Management performs a critical service for the citizens of Omaha. The employees are parents, neighbors and friends. This is a tragedy for everyone," she said.
