Lincoln Man Cited After Drinking Malt Liquor In Cop Car

A Lincoln man found himself in detox Thursday morning after deciding to crack a cold one in the backseat of a police officer's cruiser.

Lincoln Police say just before midnight, an officer observed an intoxicated man stumbling in the street near 17th and A Street. The man, identified as 38 year old Rubin Rollins, told the officer he was trying to get to his brother’s home a few blocks away.

The officer offered Rollins a ride since he was unable to safely walk. Rollins accepted the ride and once the officer began to drive, he heard a can open in the back seat and found that Rollins had opened a can of Hurricane malt liquor.

Rollins was told by the officer that he could not have an open alcohol in the vehicle and the man continued to drink from the can. The officer drove to the address provided, but no one was home for the intoxicated man to be turned over to. He was then cited for Open Alcohol Container and Consuming Alcohol in Public and turned over to The Bridge, a detox facility.
