California Couple Receive Probation In Christmas Pot Case

An elderly California couple have been sentenced to probation after being caught transporting marijuana through the Cornhusker State.

On Monday, a York County judge sentenced 71 year old Barbara and 80 year old Patrick Jiron to three years probation. The couple also received three 30 day jail sentences, which can be waived if they fulfill their probation requirements. 

The Jiron's were arrested in December 2017 while transporting 60 pounds of marijuana from California to Vermont. The Clearlake Oaks, California couple told law enforcement that the pot was Christmas gifts for family on the east coast and were not aware that it was illegal to have marijuana in Nebraska.

Both pleaded No Contest to Possession of More Than a Pound of Marijuana. The couple will be supervised at their home by California authorities.
