Smoking Ruled Cause Of Deadly Plattsmouth Fire

The State Fire Marshal determined that smoking materials were the cause of a fire at South Park Apartments in Plattsmouth. The Saturday night fire claimed the life of one person.

The deceased victim was identified as 63 year old Paulla Redding-Weeks of Plattsmouth. Autopsy results indicated the cause of death was smoke inhalation from the fire.

One other person was injured in the fire, but their identity and condition are unknown at this time.

The blaze brought in crews from across the area including the Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire Department, Murray Fire and Rescue, Bellevue Fire Department, Louisville Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Plattsmouth Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Cass County Emergency Management, Cass County EMS, Cass County Attorney and the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Agency.

The fire marshal says the investigation has concluded.
