A Council Bluffs woman who police say was attacked by her grandson last month has died. 71 year Karen Fort was assaulted on August 27 in her home near 22nd and Avenue K and suffered severe facial and head injuries.
Police say she died on Friday. After the assault Fort's grandson, 29 year old Jacob Heyer, was arrested for Willful Injury and transported to Pottawattamie Corrections for his actions.
Detectives working with the County Attorney’s Office have amended charges against Heyer and he has now been charged with 1st Degree Murder.
Investigators say Heyer also violated a restraining order that had been issued for him to have no contact with his grandfather, Ron Fort, who was in the home at the time of the assault.
