Pottawattamie County authorities say one person was killed in a two vehicle crash on Highway 6 Friday morning.
Deputies were called to the area of Highway 6 and Sunnydale Road around 8:45 a.m. That intersection is just west of the Westfair Amphitheatre.
When they arrived, deputies found a man in one of the vehicles unresponsive. Rescue personnel determined that 65 year old Peter O’Mahoney from LaGrange Park, Illinois was dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates that 64 year old Paula Moody of Omaha was eastbound on Highway 6 in a van. O’Mahoney was eastbound on Highway 6 in a Honda Civic.
Investigators say O’Mahoney turned onto Sunnydale Road and appears to have been attempting to make a U-turn. Moody’s vehicle struck O’Mahoney’s vehicle in the driver’s side. The impact caused both vehicles to end up in the ditch.
