Expanded Medicaid To Be Placed On November Ballot

A decision by the Nebraska Supreme Court has allowed a proposed Medicaid expansion to be placed on November's midterm election ballot. Nebraska voters will now be able to decide whether to extend more benefits to residents that use the social service.

On Wednesday, the court rejected a Republican-led lawsuit that would stop the proposal from being put on the ballot. Advocates say a vote favoring expansion would ensure coverage for about 90,000 low-income residents who earn too much to qualify for regular Medicaid but too little to be eligible for assistance under the Affordable Care Act.

Nebraska's Republican led Legislature has previously rejected six attempts to expand Medicaid.
