A woman was critically injured in a crash near Bennington Friday morning.
Authorities say the crash was reported on Highway 36 near 144th Street around 7:45.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation but according to the initial findings, Douglas County authorities say this appears to have been a freak accident. An SUV reportedly hit a deer and the impact threw the deer into another vehicle, hitting the driver's side. The woman critically injured was the driver of that car.
The crash restricted traffic for hours with the highway being reopened to normal traffic around 11:00 AM.
