Mollie Tibbetts's Father Says Her Death Shouldn't Be Politicized

It has been an agonizing two months for the Tibbetts family as they processed the disappearance and death of the University of Iowa student. Now, Mollie's dad, Rob Tibbetts, is asking for the world to allow them to grieve for the 20 year old, and not use her death to promote political agendas.

A Mexican farm worker, who is suspected of being in the U.S. illegally, has been charged in the death of Mollie, and on Saturday Rob took to print media to share his message.

In his weekend opinion piece in The Des Moines Register, Rob spoke out against using "Mollie's soul in advancing views she believed were profoundly racist." He says Mollie and her brutal murder should not be used as a pawn for debate and referenced Donald Trump Jr.

In an opinion piece published Friday, the president's son said media outlets, Democrats and others haven't focused enough on the suspect's immigration status and called for tighter border security.

Rob says he and his family just want to be left alone and that “We want Mollie to die with dignity.” A week after Mollie's body was discovered, Rob received a robocall from what appeared to be a Brooklyn, Iowa number. What was on the other end of that call would devastate the Tibbetts family, as it was a white nationalist. In the recorded message, the person stated that if Mollie could be brought back to life, she would say of immigrants, "Kill them all."

Rob says that simply wasn't true, Mollie would have never said anything of the sort, and that the call shook his family to their core.  "It was unbelievably painful. It was everything that’s dark and wrong in America right now."

Mollie's father is now pleading with political leaders to show some decency and humanity. "I’m tired of my family being abused."
