A Council Bluffs man is behind bars after allegedly assaulting his grandmother.
Council Bluffs Police say officers were called to the area of 22nd and Avenue K to investigate an assault that had taken place involving the victim, 71 year old Karen Fort, and her grandson, 29 year old Jacob Heyer.
Officers found Fort in her home and called medics right away. She was transported to Nebraska Medicine for treatment to several injuries to her face. Heyer was found across the street, but refused to talk to officers at the time of the incident.
Heyer was taken into custody for Willful Injury and Violation of a Restraining Order which had been issued for him to have no contact with his grandfather, Ron Fort, who was in the home at the time of the assault.
Karen Fort is in Critical but stable condition at Nebraska Med and the investigation is ongoing.
