Fundraiser For Family Of Couple Killed In Crash

It has been two months since a mother and father will killed in a car crash near Highway 50 and Schram Rd.  Since then, support has overwhelmed a set of grandparents, who are now caring for the couples' children.

"I was in an auto accident and my mommy and daddy died... Sorry, and it was just so matter of fact," says Emmett Wayne, recounting the words of 5-year-old Unity. She was in the car with her parents, Adam and Jennifer, when a head-on collision changed the family's life forever.

Only Unity survived. She and her four siblings now live with Grandma Sheila and Grandpa Emmett. "While God has given us the ability and the finances to be able to take this undertaking on, it's still quite expensive," Emmett told 6 News..

Support has poured in for the family since the tragedy.  Grandma and Grandpa know they need all the support they can get.  "The Omaha community has been just wonderful in trying to help us raise money just so we can give the kids kind of a normal life," Emmett said.

Emmett and Sheila remain faithful that everything is part of God's plan and the community will come through for Unity and her brothers and sisters.  "She's an amazing little girl. It's my with, my prayer to God, that He allows me to stay alive long enough to see her graduate high school," Emmett said.

There will be a fundraising event for the family on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in La Vista's central park. There will be a bounce house, silent auction for Husker memorabilia, a bake sale and a chance to meet the family.
