Volunteers are making the final preparations for this year's Maha Music Festival at Stinson Park. For the fist time ever the festival will be two days instead of one. Organizers said after 10 years, they were ready.
"It was a gradual change. We wanted to make sure we weren't biting off more than we could chew. It did takes us 10 years to make that decision. We're grassroots, mostly volunteers," William Sweet, a member of the Maha Board of Directors, told 6 News.
Along with the festival moving to two days, Maha is celebrating combining with Big Omaha, the yearly creative conference at Omaha's Creative Center. Organizers said the move made sense.
"How can we pull the things that are already attracting people and build them around a shared time frame so people can experience it in a way they come for College World Series or Berkshire Hathaway, but this is the homegrown reflective stuff," said Executive Director Lauren Martin.
Organizers are expecting 5,000 to 6,000 thousand people to attend. "That's the whole idea. The conference, the bands, that's really the hook to get people here. We want to show off what's great about Omaha," Martin says.
The festival runs from 5 p.m. to midnight on Friday and 12 p.m. to midnight on Saturday. Tickets are still available.
