Cunningham Lake will close to all watercraft Friday, August 17th for the remainder of the season.
Nebraska Game and Parks confirmed the discovery of Zebra Mussels two weeks ago. The lake will close to boats and other vessels to prevent transporting the mussels to other local bodies of water.
Nebraska Game and Parks, the City of Omaha, Nebraska Invasive Species Program and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers made the decision to close the lake to watercraft saying other lakes could be at high risk of being infected if precautions are not taken.
Boaters are encouraged to do their part to prevent the spread of the mussels by cleaning, draining and drying boats after each use.
Long term management strategies are under consideration.
