Puppy Stolen From Nebraska Humane Society Van

Nebraska Humane Society officials are looking for whoever stole a young beagle puppy from the back of one of their vans last Friday.

Officials said the beagle, named Lucky, was taken from an NHS van near 40th and Seward. NHS staff members were on scene assisting with an eviction. Since Lucky’s owner was not home at the time, NHS staff were taking Lucky to be looked after.

While the NHS officers were attempting to remove the second dog, a suspect drove up to the van and took Lucky and then fled in a green/grey Ford Explorer or Expedition.

A bystander captured the theft on cell phone video.

Animal Control Officers have interviewed the owner of the puppy who is distraught over the loss of his dog. NHS spokesperson Pam Wiese told 6 News that nothing like this has ever happened before.

The Nebraska Humane society is offering a $1,000 reward for the arrest of the suspect and the safe return of the beagle puppy. A theft report has also been filed with the Omaha Police Department. Tips can be made to Omaha Crime Stoppers by calling 402-444-STOP.
