New details emerged in a weekend shooting that left one woman hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Last Sunday morning, 25 year old Tyler Jones in North Omaha just after 2:30.
A friend who was with Jones that night said her, Jones and five others were walking near 24th and Ida when they noticed what looked like a red Nissan Altima drive by in a strange way. Moments later, the car came back around and someone from inside the vehicle fired off eight shots in the groups direction. One of those struck Jones on the hip area.
Jones arrived at Creighton University's CHI Health Clinic in critical condition. Jones' sister Lindsay Syas tells 6 News that the family was told she likely wouldn't make it. "Before coming in, we didn't think she was going to survive. So, right now, it's a complete turnaround and we're just praying and hoping for the best."
Syas said that Jones remains unconscious under sedation. She said the bullet entered through her hip and hit her small intestine, colon and arteries. Jones has already undergone four surgeries and will have to have her leg amputated at some point.
She has five small children. Police are still looking for a suspect in the case.
The family has started a GoFundMe page to pay for medical costs. There will also be a fundraiser for Jones on Saturday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 pm at 6060 N 56th St.
