Greater Charge Added For Man Accused In Deadly Hit And Run

The man accused of being behind the wheel during a deadly hit and run crash is now facing upgraded charges.

Davionne Collier was in Douglas County Court Tuesday, now facing an additional charge of Motor Vehicle Homicide for the May 28th crash that killed 2 year old Devon Morris.

Devon Morris was unrestrained in the back of the other vehicle when Collier allegedly ran a red light and caused the crash near Fontenelle Boulevard and Curtis. Two other people, including another child, were also injured in that crash.

Collier was initially charged with Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident Resulting in Death, Willful Reckless Driving and Driving Under Suspension, but authorities say the evidence called for a greater charge.

Devon Morris’ mother, O.C. Mills broke down in the courtroom Tuesday and had to excuse herself to regain her composure. “My kids had to suffer and I wasn’t there to protect them and then the way he made it seem like he helped my kids and he didn’t help my kids at all. And we’re not about to even do that. We’re not about to even do that. So I had to leave. So I wouldn’t go off,” Mills told 6 News. “I’m not about to go to jail. I still have kids that need me. We’re not about to play games. We’re not about to do that.”

Collier turned himself in after police issued a warrant for his arrest in the case. He has been held on a $150,000 bond. His next court appearance is set for August 30.
