Water Rescue Teams Dispatched To Carter Lake

Emergency crews were called out to Carter Lake early Tuesday morning after an SUV went into the water.

Omaha Fire and Water Rescue crews were called to the scene around 4:30 when a police officer reported seeing a car drive by and then the tail lights seemed to disappear. When the officer turned around, they found fresh tire tracks leading up to the water.

A rescue boat was launched along Carter Lake Shore Drive, along the west side of the lake. Crews used sonar to search the lake and a buoy marker was placed at a section of the lake where dive teams entered the water.

A tow truck pulled an SUV from the lake just after 8:00. Online records show the SUV was reported stolen. An investigation is underway.
