A first of its kind festival will be held in downtown Omaha this weekend. The first Nebraska Asian Festival will debut on Saturday at the Lewis and Clark Landing. This family-friendly festival will celebrate Asian culture and cuisine.
The Nebraska Asian Festival has a lineup of activities, including cultural dances, an egg roll eating contest, sumo wrestling, yo-yo championships, a Tibetan monk blessing, bonsai displays, origami making, martial arts and a variety of art and fitness demonstrations. The day will begin and end with exotic lion dances, including a fiery knife dance performed by the Pacific Island Dancers. Food vendors will showcase mouthwatering Asian cuisine along with a beer garden that will feature Asian beer.
The Nebraska Asian Festival was created by Awesome Egg Rolls owner Tess Anisco, who recently created the Asian Club of Nebraska. Anisco, who is Filipino, moved to Nebraska fourteen years ago with the goal of introducing the rich traditions of the Asian heritage to Nebraska.“My Filipino background taught me the importance of sharing and connecting. I started my own business to share my love for Asian cuisine with the Omaha area, and I look forward to sharing more of the Asian culture at the Nebraska Asian Festival. I hope to grow the event for years to come.”
Admission for the festival is $5 for attendees 12 and older. Children under the age of 12 get in for free. The festival from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM.You can find more information here.
