Mother Of Sarah Root To Hear Her Daughter's Heartbeat Again

The mother of a woman killed by a man illegally in the country will soon get to hear her daughter's heartbeat, in another person's chest.

In January 2016, 21 year old Sarah Root was hit by a drunk driver, 19 year old Eswin Mejia, who street racing another driver at the time of the accident. Sarah would die three days later, succumbing to injuries sustained in the crash. Mejia was an illegal immigrant from Honduras and fled the country after a family member put up the money for his $50,000 bond. Mejia has still not been located.

Sarah was an organ donor and her mother, Michelle Root says she has recently been in contact with the person who received her daughter's heart. "The heart recipient's wife had emailed me and stated that her husband, his birthday is coming up and they would love for us to meet."

Michelle says meeting the recipient will undoubtedly be a day full of mixed emotions. "I get to share my baby's heartbeat again and that's going to be very emotional, but very rewarding in its own way as well."The memory of Sarah lives on through those who received her organs.

The heart recipient can now live life to the fullest thanks to Sarah's heroic decision to be an organ donor. "He's full of energy and life now. He can keep up with his grandchildren and they just seem like a wonderful family."

The families will meet on Sunday.
