Nebraska Reports First Human Case Of West Nile In 2018

Nebraska is reporting its first human case of the West Nile virus for 2018.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services says a man in Scotts Bluff County tested positive for the virus. Officials say they expect more reports as this won't be the only case of the virus this year. Over 50 cases were reported last year, including two deaths.

West Nile Virus is carried by mosquitoes, so officials advise wearing mosquito repellent, dressing in long clothing and avoiding outdoor activity in the nighttime hours to prevent mosquito bites. Officials also advise to drain any standing water around homes, as standing water and warmth breed mosquitoes.
