One Dead; Three Injured In Three Separate Sunday Night Shootings

It was a violent night in Omaha on Sunday as one person was killed and three others were injured in three separate shootings.

Police were alerted to the first shooting just before 11:00 when ShotSpotter was activated near 19th and Miami. Once in the area, officers located seventeen year old Anthony Carter suffering from a gunshot wound. Carter was transported to CUMC-University Campus with a minor injury.

Around 11:30, another shooting was reported at the parking lot of Guaca Maya Restaurant near 33rd and Q. Officers working off-duty at Guaca Maya heard gunshots nearby and located two victims just north of the restaurant.

Emergency crews took both 23 year old Franco Gonzalez-Mendez and 22 year old Edgar Gonzalez-Mendez to Nebraska Medicine in critical condition. Franco Gonzalez-Mendez was declared dead at the hospital. Edgar Gonzalez-Mendez remains in critical condition.

Officers responded to the third shooting after a Shot Spotter picked up shots being fired around 11:45 near 24th & Taylor. In this shooting 20 year old Lanisha Hughes suffered critical injuries after being shot multiple times. Medics transported Hughes to the Nebraska Medicine, but her injuries are not thought to be life threatening at this time.
