Nebraska Medicine Announces New Clinic In Downtown Omaha

On Monday, Nebraska Medicine announced that they will open a clinic in downtown Omaha later this year.

Clarkson Family Medicine, currently located near the Nebraska Medicine – Nebraska Medical Center campus, will move to 13th and Leavenworth. It will be a big change for patients and staff as the family practice residency has been in its current location at 42nd and Douglas Streets for 27 years.

Nebraska Medicine CEO Dr. Ben DeBehnke says they will move to that location to fill the needs of those in and around downtown. “With residential and business growth downtown, there’s a clear need for access to health care. Nebraska Medicine is proud to be able to offer our expertise to people who live and work downtown."

Clarkson Family Medicine is a full-service family medicine clinic with tts faculty and resident physicians providing care to people of all ages. Patients have access to minor surgical procedures, vaccinations, x-ray and OB/GYN care.

Clarkson Family Medicine's Program director, Dr. Amy Jespersen, tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB that the move is needed in order to accommodate faculty and patients. "The new clinic will offer an expansion of the space that we are currently in. We now have dietitians, pharmacists, social workers and nurse care coordinators in the clinic at least part-time, and that has made out current quarters seem fairly cramped." The clinic is a certified Patient-Centered Medical Home, meaning a team of doctors, nurses, social workers, dietitians, pharmacists and behavioral health providers work together to help patients stay healthy.

Jespersen says there is a lot to be excited about with the new facility. “This will be an excellent learning environment for our residents and a great care environment for our existing and new patients.”

The new space will include sixteen exam rooms, consultation space, a procedure room, lab and x-ray. Renovation work is being done in the building right now as the building was previously used as a CHI Health clinic.

It’s expected to open this fall with Clarkson Family Medicine continuing to operate in its current location until the move this fall.
