One Killed In Southwest Lincoln Crash

One person has died after a Friday night crash in Southwest Lincoln.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says at 7:40, deputies along with Southwest Rural Fire and Rescue, responded to a report of a two vehicle crash occurring at the intersection of Southwest 40th and West A Streets.

Emergency crews arrived and found that a southbound 2015 white Chevy Silverado pickup had collided with a westbound 1993 Chevy 1500 pickup in the intersection. The front seat passenger of the Chevy 1500 pickup, 54 year old Rhondi Lovelace from rural Lincoln, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevy 1500 pickup was identified as Reginal Wyman from Fremont, Nebraska. Wyman was transported to the hospital, treated and released.

The driver of the Silverado, 25 year old Matthew Werner of Lincoln, and his passenger declined medical treatment at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Werner failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection when the crash occurred. Seat belts were in use by Werner and his passenger and the airbags deployed in that vehicle. Seat belts were not in use by Wyman or Lovelace and airbags did not deploy in that vehicle.

An autopsy has been ordered by the Lancaster County Attorney’s Office and the investigation into this crash continues.
