The Douglas County Fair is ready to welcome visitors at two new locations.
The annual fair will be held this weekend at Village Pointe Shopping Center and Chance Ridge Event Center on Skyline Road in Elkhorn.
Village Pointe will host educational activities and exhibits centered on home economics including clothing, food preservation, quilting and cake decorating along with stage shows, bands and interactive activities and displays. Chance Ridge will host the livestock portion including open class junior shows, farm equipment and the Very Important Animal Experience.
Douglas County Fair Executive Director Vernon Waldren says this year's fair lives up to its motto of ‘Where Urban and Rural Meet.' “We want fair-goers to come away from the event that’s rooted in 4-H and Extension but with a greater understanding of agricultural production, water, food and food safety, consumer choice and how youth can make a difference in their communities today and the impact will be felt tomorrow.”
The fair is showcasing Open Class exhibits, meaning anyone can exhibit. Many competitive classes are available including all varieties of garden and farm produce, floral exhibits, baked and canned goods, textiles, sewing, hobbies, hand-crafts, antiques, and more.
Free parking will be located at Metropolitan Community College-Elkhorn Campus with free shuttles running every 10 minutes at the shuttle stops.
A ribbon cutting will be held at Village Pointe Thursday night to kick-off the festivities, then the fair runs July 13th, 14th and 15th. For the latest information, click here.
