'Clumsy' Thief Makes Off With Cash During Armed Robbery

A man described as 'clumsy' and intoxicated is the subject of an armed robbery investigation by Omaha Police.

Officers were called to the Kum and Go at 72nd and Decatur around 2:15 Tuesday morning. Witnesses said the suspect was wearing a black skeleton mask over his face and was intoxicated. He was also wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark t-shirt and black shorts as entered the business. The suspect showed a gun at some point during the robbery.

After grabbing money from inside the store, the suspect approached a couple outside. The suspect told the female victim and her boyfriend to hand over their stuff. The woman refused and told the suspect she had already called 911 and police would arrive soon.

The woman said the suspect fumbled around with the gun and dropped some of the stolen cash on the ground before running off.

The couple picked up the dropped cash and carried it back into the store. The woman said she thought the suspect might have been intoxicated since he seemed "kind of clumsy."

Police said he was last seen running southbound and then eastbound on Decatur street.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Omaha Crime Stoppers at 444-STOP. Tips leading to an arrest where a firearm is recovered is eligible for an enhanced reward of $1,000.
