A seventeen year old is in trouble with the law after allegedly setting off fireworks on two Lincoln porches.
The Lincoln Police Department says after the video surveillance was released to the media, they received numerous tips identifying the person responsible for lighting the firework. A seventeen year old boy and his mother were contacted regarding the two incidents in southeast Lincoln.
Police say just after 10:00 Sunday night, a 43 year old man heard a knock on the front door of his home near 84th and South Street. When he opened the door, there was a loud explosion and a red, older model SUV drove away from the scene. The man’s home began to fill with smoke and the smoke detectors began to sound. Officers discovered an artillery shell had been lit on the man’s front step, causing over $700 in damage to the doormat, brick siding and front door.
Around 11:15, a 30 year old woman reported she heard a loud explosion by her front door near 75th and South Street. When she checked her Vivint video doorbell, she saw that a man rang her doorbell, lit a firework and ran away. There was approximately $400 in damage to the storm door and door frame.
The teen was referred to the County Attorney for two counts each of Injure or Destroy Property of Another, Disturbing the Peace, Trespassing and Unlawful Discharge of a Firework.
