Man Robbed At Gunpoint Outside Omaha Home Depot

A Home Depot shopper got the scare of a lifetime when he tried to stop three men from robbing him, and was met with a gun in response.

Omaha Police say the victim was at the Home Depot near 127th and L around 3:00 Monday afternoon. The victim told officers when he walked out of the store he saw three men taking wheels out of the back of his red truck, so he confronted them.

That's when one of the robbers pulled a gun, so the truck owner dove behind the vehicle for safety.

Sergeant Tim Ringhoff of the Omaha Police Department was on the scene and told 6 News, "Of course he did what anybody else would do and challenged anybody that was taking property of his, but at the point where they produce any type of weapon and threaten your life, the smartest thing to do is take cover behind the truck like he did and let us handle it."

The victim said he just had the rims on the truck changed and stopped at Home Depot for a few minutes. All four wheels and rims were stolen with an estimated loss of $1,200.

The suspects took off in a white truck with paper Woodhouse plates. No one was hurt in the robbery and no shots were fired.

The victim said he was very surprised that this would happen in broad daylight in an area where so many people were walking around. There were cameras in the area where the incident happens and police are continuing to investigate.
