Man Sets Off Fireworks On Lincoln Front Porches

For some it may sound like fireworks are being set off right outside your door, but for two Lincoln residents fireworks actually were set off in front of their doors in a dangerous version of 'Ding, Dong, Ditch.'

Lincoln Police say just after 10:00 Sunday night, a 43 year old man heard a knock on the front door of his home near 84th and South Street. When he opened the door, there was a loud explosion and a red, older model SUV drove away from the scene. The man’s home began to fill with smoke and the smoke detectors began to sound. Officers discovered an artillery shell had been lit on the man’s front step, causing over $700 in damage to the doormat, brick siding and front door.

Around 11:15, a 30 year old woman reported she heard a loud explosion by her front door near 75th and South Street. When she checked her Vivint video doorbell, she saw that a man rang her doorbell, lit a firework and ran away. There was approximately $400 in damage to the storm door and door frame.

Anyone with information should contact Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000.
