Hazardous Material Spill Shuts Down Parts Of I-29

Parts of I-29 were shut down on Sunday after hazardous materials spilled onto the roadway. The interstate was shut down in both directions between Mondamin and Missouri Valley due to the hazardous waste spill.

A driver on I-29 noticed a semi hauling hazardous material was leaking liquid from the trailer. The driver was able to flag down the semi driver and alert them to the leak.

Iowa State Patrol troopers assessed the situation and the liquid was deemed hazardous, prompting the shut down of both the north and south bound lanes. Hazmat teams from a number of agencies were called to the scene to monitor the spill.
