The YMCA of Greater Omaha and The Center in Council Bluffs will soon share programs, facilities and staff resources. After months of discussion, the board of directors for both entities voted to approve a strategic alliance that will take shape in the next several months.
YMCA of Greater Omaha President and CEO Chris Tointon says, "We think we will have even better quality programming. We are going to have more choices. We are going to have more locations. We are going to be able to enhance all of our YMCA programming across the greater Omaha metro community. We think there will be great opportunities for active adults to be more active and more engaged in the community. We think partnering with the center will help us learn and grow in how we provide programming to active seniors and active adults." Tointon says this could serve as a model for other communities who want to establish wellness programs.
The Center will continue to focus on activities and classes that engage active adults in Council Bluffs. The target date for joint operations is January 1, 2019.
