Medicaid Expansion Could Be Put On November Ballot

Medicaid expansion in Nebraska could be on the ballot in November after supporters of 'Insure the Good Life' delivered a petition of more than 135,000 signatures to the Secretary of State's office on Thursday. The organizers' hopes are to put a measure to expand Medicaid coverage for Nebraskans on the ballot this fall.

To get a measure on the ballot, organizers had to get at least seven percent of Nebraska's registered voters to sign a petition, and the petition delivered Thursday exceeded that number. The petition should be processed with two weeks and then delivered to county election officials. Once there, each petition signature will be verified.

From there, county election officials will have 40 days to compete that verification process while the Attorney General's office begins drafting the ballot measure.
