OPS Superintendent Lays Out Plan For First 90 Days

Omaha Public School's new superintendent, Dr. Cheryl Logan, laid out her 90 day entry plan to the district at Monday evening's Board of Education meeting.

Logan has officially been on the job less than two days and many board members commented Monday on Dr. Logan's quick work. The new superintendent hit the ground running prior to her start, spending the last few months working no more than 20 days in-consecutively to get the ball rolling on key issues.

In her 90-day entry plan, which she said is to primarily get her "feet wet" in the district, includes building a good relationship with the board, building trust with stakeholder groups and the community, looking at the current curriculum and student performance, as well as looking at the district's overall financial health.

Dr. Logan has already made changes, most notably, to the district's threat assessment. She has increased one staff member's role in preventing violence and focusing on students' needs. With that change, her main change is increasing training for all staff on how to assess students' needs.

Dr. Logan admits, though, her first 90 days won't come without at least some challenges. "I think budget is going to be a challenge and finance is going to be a challenge," Dr. Logan said. "Threat assessment and making sure our children are safe every day. That's a big thing I think about. It keeps me up at night."
