Man Stops Thief From Stealing His Car By Clinging To The Hood

A man was able to stop his car from being stolen, by clinging to the hood as the attempted thief drove away.

Adrian Richardson tell 6 News that he was getting gas at Bucky's on 72nd Street late on Wednesday night. He says he went inside for a moment, and that's when he noticed something strange. "All of a sudden I see my headlights come on. Didn't think about it, didn't dawn on me until I seen my car move. And it moved a little bit and I darted out of the store."

He said the suspect, Ryan Miyeno, was sitting in his white Hyundai. Richardson said Miyeno then drove right at him, so he jumped on to the hood of his own car and went for a ride. "I didn't even think about it. It was just a reaction I guess. Just hold on until he stops."

Richardson said the car eventually came to a stop on an area of 72nd St. where he told Miyeno to get out. "My face was planted on the windshield and it was just like, dude you're not going to stop. And then the only thing that stopped him was that red light."

He says that red light helped him get his car back. "He slowly put it in park and tried to run from me and I tackled him and held him there until the cops got there".

Richardson is still shocked by what happened. "Because he honestly could have killed me. He honestly could have killed me and I have kids at home."

Richardson said Miyeno did not appear to have any weapons on him, and his car only had a couple of scratches from him holding on to the hood.

Miyeno was arrested and his bond has been set at $2,500.
